Welcome to the Norfolk Federation of Women's Institutes

Sally Paramour, Federation ChairmanWelcome to the Norfolk Federation of Women's Institutes, part of the National Federation of Women's Institutes (NFWI), the largest voluntary organisation for women in the UK, with 210,000 members in England, Wales and the Islands.

We are delighted to have 177 WIs in our Norfolk Federation and about 5,500 members.  Several WIs have fewer than ten members and the largest has almost 90, so the range is diverse.  One of our newer WIs is the Golden Triangle Girls WI - another central Norwich institute and the youngest Norfolk institute to date.  Read more here.

The first Institutes were set up in 1918, and the Federation in 1919.  The office is housed in a Georgian building in the middle of Norwich where we have been since 1952.  Many members visit the office for collection of our monthly newspaper, the WI Gazette, purchasing essential supplies and gifts, and attending day schools.

The Sub-Committees of the Federation are extremely busy throughout the year offering a wide range of activities from the arts and crafts to various sporting activities, learning about health, trying a new skill like découpage or listening to possible new speakers at auditions days.

Please contact the Federation Office if you are interested in any of the events mentioned, have any special skills to offer, or feel that you could help the Federation by joining a sub-committee.
